A project based in Cardiff, Wales, for Llandaff Cathedral; a centre for arts and recreation with a focus on music that supports the cathedral’s choir and practice needs.
Percy Scholes once described classical music as a fabric that is woven. The concept behind The Music Gallery is about exploring modern takes on classical music and thus allowing music, and sound, to weave and intertwine within itself in the same space. It factors in the senses and how our interpretation of music can be played with by seeing or hearing things through a filter.
The woven concept is portrayed through means of materiality as well as the creation of differing spaces through filtered light over the course of a day as well as the layout of overlapping functional rooms. The site takes advantage of the topography and plays a key role in re-linking the cathedral to the city via the Taff Trail along the Bute River.
